Subject

Photographs from St Vincent after the 1902 eruption of La Soufriére volcano.

Description

This photo has been taken looking upslope from Bunker Hill in 1903 and shows the same perspective of the Wallibou River as Items 281, 283, and 284, over an area in which a secondary explosion occurred on 30th May 1902 (captured in Items 281 and 283). The main feature of this image is the incision into pyroclastic deposits when compared with previous items, particularly Item 284. Some erosional terraces are evident, a small/narrow active channel occupies a relatively flat valley bottom. Surrounding hill slopes appear to be bare and rilled. Bare vegetation is only obvious in foreground.
