Title
Tempest Anderson photo - Wallibou, Erosion and Hot Ash
Yorkshire Museum Image reference: YORM_TA58_2
Subject
Photographs from St Vincent after the 1902 eruption of La Soufriére volcano.
Description
Photograph taken from the base of a valley looking up stream. The base of the valley is occupied by a smoothed surface of what appears to be the deposit of a pyroclastic density current; the surface of the deposit is incised by small channels (of the order of ~10cm), which drain into a larger main channel in the bottom left of the photo, which has a depth of approximately 30-40cm (man on right of frame used as approximate scale). One tree stump protrudes from the deposit on the right. In the background of the image there is a large tree protruding from a hillside/valley side that has been stripped of leaves. The surrounding hillslopes are free of vegetation and are covered by a dense gully network.
