Yorkshire Museum Image reference: YORM_TA220

Subject

Photographs from St Vincent after the 1902 eruption of La Soufriére volcano.

Description

View across the Wallibou River to the North Wall, a cliffed valley margin, which is the main focus of this image. The cliff consists of two obvious units: one lighter occupying the top third, and one darker making up the lower two thirds. The upper third is presumably new ash/tephra from the 1902 eruption. Elsewhere, the Valley floor appears flat, devoid of vegetation, and in the foreground is boulder laden. Channelisation is not obvious in this image. The cliff top of the North Wall is densely vegetated, as are the surronding hills in the background. Three individuals are in the foreground, one with an umbrella, with two horses/donkeys.
