Title

Tempest Anderson photo - Site of Morne Ronde Subsidence
Yorkshire Museum Image reference: YORM_TA240

Subject

Photographs from St Vincent after the 1902 eruption of La Soufriére volcano.

Description

View from off the coast near Morne Ronde, looking up towards the volcano. The sea meets an alluvial fan on the right of the image, and cliffs on the left. Vegetation is perched in some parts of the cliff face. The land surface above the cliffs appears relatively flat, sparsely vegetated, and eroded by networks of rills. Further inland, the land surface steepens, and is more densely vegetated. Vegetation density appears to decrease with increasing proximity to the volcano along the ridge in the middle of the photo, and ridge crests appear to be vegetation-free.
